HOW TO: Cut long layers, choose bleach

Any questions, please ask at: formspring.me/heyheymichelle Go into Sally’s Beauty Supply and ask for a packet of L’Oreal Super Oreal Blanc bleach powder, along with a bottle of 40 Volume Developer. Next, find a bowl and some latex gloves. Oh, and a liquid measuring cup. You’ll need 1.7 fluid ounces of the developer to mix with the bleach, stir it until it’s a consistently creamy blend. Apply to dry, unwashed hair, leave on for thirty-fourty minutes. Rinse, and your hair should be a less yellow, more blonde color. Also, Manic Panic sucks for pink color. Order some Special Effects Cupcake Pink if you’re looking for it to fade, or some Atomic Pink if you want it to stay FOREVER. If you can’t find that, go to Hot Topic and purchase Color Fiend Nuclear Pink. It washes out eventually, but it’s what I’m currently using. Also, you could go to Wallgreens and pick up some Splat “Pink Fetish”. DO NOT use the bleach it comes with. The pink looks a little dark in the bottle, so feel free to add some conditioner to it to dilute it and make it lighter. I hope it works out for you!

I bleach my hair around every six weeks or so. I will have it cut and then if it needs doing then I do it. I have always used jerome Russell bleach from my local store called superdrug, never had any problems. I once had it bleached by a hairdresser and I hated it. Cost me thirty quid as well

@heyheymichelle I agree! I don’t know how many times i’ve gone to the hairdresser and told them i want a trim only about 1cm taken off, i come out of the hairdresser with like 3 inches taken off and they’re like ‘aw well it was really damaged so i took more off it’. Im like i know it was damaged you dumb fuck thats why i asked for a trim and bought a really expensive treatment. So now i just get my Mum to cut it because she know’s the difference between 1cm and 3 inches :)

@Lexislilmonstas i used to use 40 then i realized i could get to white with 30 so i stopped. i don’t mind the damaged look. i think it adds a texture but i want super long hair and if you use 40 your hair will be more prone to breaking off.

any chemical treatment damages hair. bleaching once does about as much damage as dying with a box dye. any chemical processing is going to hurt your hair, but if you take care of it, it won’t be too bad. never use 40 vol. nobody EVER needs 40 vol. if you have black hair, you should do multiple bleaching’s over a long period (months). 40 vol doesn’t lift much more than 30, but damages a hell of alot more.

@madicadi it may be orangey or ugly at first but live with it and pretend you did it on purpose until you can confidently bleach your hair again. Going slow will help your hair in the long run.

@madicadi. When you have dyed black hair its extremely hard to get what you’re looking for in one “at home” try. Have it priced first at a colorist, just priced. If its waaaaaay more than you’re willing to pay do it at home. Do not I repeat do not use 40 vol developer on your hair! (You know unless you have extremely extremely resilient hair) going from black to say blonde will take more than one processing so don’t go too fast your hair could break off, and never leave it on for more than 1hour

Okay, so i have like black hair with like brown/blondlish highlights and I really want to get back to my old hair color, or dye my hair blonde. It’s so hard to get out the black.. Are you postive this will work? Will hot topics 40 volumer developer work?

Few things… Bleaching hair once Does damage hair … Always tell subs to Do a bleach spot test.. Its great it didnt hurt your scalp but as a profesional hairdresser Ive seen women have boils, blisters and sores all over their scalp because they bleached/dyed thier own hair. An allergic reaction can be really bad for the hair, scalp and over all health of the person dying there own hair. But over all decent tut. def go to school I see your passion :)

You have some funny shaped lips. It’s like your bottom lip is non existent. Probably not a good idea to wear nude lip stick if you don’t have any contrast to your lips because than it makes you look like Kermit the Frog.

@heyheymichelle THANK YOU. Last time I went to get my hair done, the stylist was BEGGING me to let her cut off like two inches. Hell NO. And my hair, minus a few split ends, looks and feels perfectly healthy and is almost to the middle of my back =]I swear I’m gonna bitch if the next stylist asks me if she can cut off some length lol
